Gordon Brown with his country in his knuckles

This is where Gordon really comes into his own. Anyone who has seen him speaking in smaller, closed leftish gatherings will have seen this side to the man. Will it make a difference? Who knows. But it's some performance, isn't it?

Via Torcuil.

Watching it I feel like it's the sort of thing that inspired me to join the party in the first place - those issues of social justice I'm sure resonate loudly with many party members.

But that's the problem, this is a language for those of us that are already on side. No doubt we need to here those messages - and we've not had Gordon and the Cabinet doing enough of that - but it's hardly the language of middle Britain is it?

And that's the difference between Brown and Blair. Blair could find ways of talking about our core values that chimed with a wider audience, Brown struggles to do so while sharing many of the same political convictions.

Disagree, Brown's unpopularity stems from not having said it before in such a way.

Sad it has taken until now.
